This week both Year 12 and 13 are studying Statistical Distributions, these distributions provide the mathematical framework for predicting everything from the outcome of a coin toss to the heights of every person on the planet. Year 12 are looking at Binomial distribution, which focuses on "Success vs. Failure" scenarios. By studying this, students learn how to calculate the probability of specific outcomes in repeated trials where there are only two possibilities (like "Does this drug work?" or "Will this part break?"). Year 13 are studying Normal Distribution, which describes how most data in nature behaves. It teaches students that while individuals vary, large groups tend to cluster around a central average. Both types of distribution have real life applications. For example Binomial distribution is used in Medical Clinical Trials, Quality Control in Manufacturing and even in Spam Filters use binomial distributions. Normal distribution is used in Standardized Testing, Logistics and in Biology, specifically Anthropology. #WeTHRIVEatCHS

We were recently visited by Mike Garlick, Director of TKAT ACE and, as a result of this visit, the Chichester High School TKAT ACE team has been awarded a GOLD accreditation. What is ACE? ACE stands for a Champion for Every Child and is a TKAT - The Kemnal Academies Trust trust wide initiative which is designed to bring down barriers to learning. As part of the mentoring programme at Chichester High School, ACE Tutors monitor academic progress of the student, have wellbeing conversations, access resources for students and work closely with a number of different agencies to help improve outcomes for their mentees. There is more information on our ACE programme on the school website. Feedback from students and parents has played a huge part in achieving this award - so thank you all! https://www.chichesterhigh-tkat.org/about-us/tkat-ace/gold-award

Today, our Year 12 students attended an informative and engaging presentation delivered by Jack Woolsey from The OddBalls Foundation. The session focused on raising awareness around testicular cancer, with a particular emphasis on breaking down the stigma and embarrassment that can often prevent young people from carrying out regular self-checks or seeking medical advice. Jack delivered the talk in an open, approachable, and often humorous way, helping students feel more comfortable discussing what can otherwise be seen as a difficult or awkward topic. He highlighted the importance of early detection and encouraged students to take responsibility for their own health by becoming more aware of their bodies and speaking to healthcare professionals if they notice any changes. We are proud to share the work of The Oddballs Foundation, which continues to make a significant impact through education and awareness campaigns. More information about their work and resources can be found on their website: www.theoddballsfoundation.com Former Chichester High School student Josh Goodwin, is now the Partnerships Manager for The Oddballs Foundation, alongside his career as a professional rugby player for Nottingham Rugby. His journey is an inspiring example of how our alumni go on to make a positive difference both within their professions and in the wider community. #WeTHRIVEatCHS

We’re sharing this important update from the NHS to raise awareness of meningitis. Although it is rare, it can become serious very quickly, so it’s important to know the signs and symptoms. These can include a high temperature, headache, sensitivity to light, drowsiness, vomiting, and a rash that doesn’t fade when pressed. If you’re ever unsure, trust your instincts and seek medical advice urgently. Please take a moment to read the NHS guidance and help us keep our children and community safe.

Session 3/4 – Netball at Birdham This week at netball in Birdham we took Lucas, Bella and Isla along with us. With the first group, we focused on driving and encouraging the players to move quickly into space to receive the ball. For the second group, we introduced a new rule – the “3-second rule,” where players had to pass the ball within three seconds of receiving it. The leaders adapted this to five seconds to give the amazing Year 3 and 4 pupils more time to find space and make good decisions. As always, the children were fantastic and showed great effort, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the session. #WeTHRIVEatCHS

During our Chichester High School TKAT ACE visit to Cobnor Activities Centre Trust, pupils had the opportunity to choose between land and water activities. The group that selected water activities began their adventure by changing into waterproof overclothes and life jackets, with some also wearing swim shoes. They then travelled by speedboat out to the sailing boats. There were two boats on the water, which created an exciting and friendly sense of competition between the groups. Before setting off, one of the pupils carefully went to the front of the boat to untie the buoy and unhook the chain. Throughout the session, all pupils were given the chance to steer the keel boat, which they greatly enjoyed. The group spent around two hours sailing, working together and developing their teamwork and sailing skills. When it was time to return, the boats raced back to shore, adding to the excitement of the activity. After sailing, the pupils changed and enjoyed a warm lunch of soup, a roll, chocolate, and a drink. The visit finished with a short walk along the shoreline before the group returned to school. The trip was a fantastic experience for the pupils, who showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. #WeTHRIVEatCHS TKAT - The Kemnal Academies Trust

Chichester High School is proud to celebrate the achievements of our former student, Naval Airman Izzy Hunter, who has successfully completed Royal Navy basic training. Receiving this news fills us with pride, not just for Izzy’s dedication and hard work, but also as a reminder of the values and skills fostered here at our school. From the classroom to the Cadets, Izzy’s journey shows how the foundation built at Chichester High School can prepare students to achieve their dreams and overcome life’s toughest challenges. ********** Reflecting on her journey, Izzy says: I often think about how different my life might have been without my time at Chichester High School. At the time, it just felt like lessons, assemblies, sports days, and the usual pressures of growing up. But looking back now - after completing Royal Navy basic training - I can clearly see how much my time at school helped prepare me. Basic training tested me in many different ways. Although I didn’t find it overly difficult, some aspects of training did present a challenge. It demanded resilience, even when I was exhausted, and discipline when I was under pressure. It pushed me to my limits and strengthened my confidence whenever self-doubt tried to creep in. In those moments, I realised something important: I had been preparing for this long before I ever put on the uniform. I joined Cadets in the summer of 2020, not realising how much it would help me grow as a person. It taught me the discipline to turn up on time and take responsibility for my actions. Those habits became essential during training, where standards were high and even the smallest mistakes were noticed. Most importantly, my teachers and Cadet staff gave me the confidence to aim high by always believing that I could achieve great things. They may not have realised it at the time, but they were shaping far more than academic results. They were shaping my character and building the resilience, work ethic, and self-belief that help carry a person through life’s toughest challenges. Today, I’m proud to have completed Royal Navy basic training and to be serving in my dream role. But I’m equally proud of where my journey began - from having no clear sense of purpose to passing out on parade in front of the First Sea Lord. Give To Gain emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organisations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it’s intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise. Whether through donations, knowledge, resources, infrastructure, visibility, advocacy, education, training, mentoring, or time, contributing to women’s advancement helps create a more supportive and interconnected world. #WeTHRIVEatCHS #KemnalSchools #internationalwomensday

Today at the @goodwoodeducationtrust Forest School, the students were busy exploring natural printing techniques using leaves and other plant materials. They collected fresh leaves, placed pieces of fabric over them, and gently tapped the surface to transfer the plant’s natural pigments onto the material. It was a hands-on activity that encouraged creativity and an appreciation for nature. The students also presented a plaque to the staff. At Forest School, we like to have a bit of fun each week by rating different services, so we created a plaque and presented it today. The staff were very pleased with it and shared it in their social media content too. #WeTHRIVEatCHS
